I've
been sitting on this news for a few months now but just got word today that it's officially official: the local organic salon,
Mode, opened their third location in the new, green, LEED Certified West
Campus Commons at Microsoft in Redmond last week.

In his trademark modest manner, owner Joe Carling—my
"mane" man who has done my hair for a decade (save for the times when I am researching other salons for
our beauty coverage)—told me during one of my recent appointments how Mode was selected from a variety of other salon/spas,
particularly for his pared-down, green approach. Mode uses all natural products and follows sustainable business practices.
(Pregnant ladies: even their highlighting and color solutions are organic, so you can rejoice, get coiffed and not have to
suffer through nine months of hideous roots.)
Microsoft's
new Commons is one of those keep-em-close-to-the desk mall-like centers for the software giant's employees. I hear it
will include a post office, a credit union, a gift shop, restaurants, a pub and the salon, which also will offer some spa
treatments, including manis and pedis, hair removal and skincare treatments. Maybe napping pods will be next?
Congrats, Mode, on the big score! -Rachel Hart, Editor Seattle Magazine
